HAUC UK meeting was held on 1st February 2012 - Main issues centre on Lane Rental; Permit Scheme Approval Devolution; Training and Accreditation; S74 Revised Charges; National Coring Best practice; Inspections; Safety at Streetworks at Roadworks CoP.

Lane Rental okayed for trials - Central London likely in June 2012.

Permit Scheme Approval Devolution - Consultation underway for approval of Permit Schemes by local authorities rather than DfT going forward.

Training & Accreditation Regulations may be scrapped by Government so proposal to community for voluntary accreditation - considered to send out the wrong messages. Consultation underway.

S74 - Revised charges now announced from Minister - Likely to be implemented in October 2012.

Coring - Best practice national document now issued for use as Best Practice Guidance Document.

Inspections - No revised CoP expected until 2013.

Safety CoP - Amendments being made to drawings before final approval of document by DfT for issue later this year.

The NWHAUC Materials group have been reviewing backfill and reinstatement materials and associated suppliers in the north-west HAUC region over the past year and have developed an approval process for materials.

A list of preferred materials and suppliers has been produced from this process and will be retained on the secure "Members Page" of the web-site. At present this list will be restricted to recycled materials only.

For access to the detail within the Members Page contact must be made with your appropriate NWHAUC committee member.

Lane Rental - The Government have announced their intention to run a trial of Lane Rental and have issued a consultation on the way forward. It is likley that two authorities will be chosen for the trial including Central London (TfL) and one other current Permit authority. The aim of the proposal is to try to reduce disruption further, where a permit scheme has already been implemented previously.

Permit Schemes - GMRAPS (Greater Manchester Road Activities Permit Scheme) - Consultation is now concluded and the final preparations to the scheme are underway. The anticipated "go-live" date of the full Permit Scheme is July 2012.

The St Helens Permit Scheme (MAPS) consultation is now approved and will be "going live" on Tuesday 10th April !!
