Lane Rental - The Government have announced their intention to run a trial of Lane Rental and have issued a consultation on the way forward. It is likley that two authorities will be chosen for the trial including Central London (TfL) and one other current Permit authority. The aim of the proposal is to try to reduce disruption further, where a permit scheme has already been implemented previously.
Permit Schemes - GMRAPS (Greater Manchester Road Activities Permit Scheme) - Consultation is now concluded and the final preparations to the scheme are underway. The anticipated "go-live" date of the full Permit Scheme is July 2012.
(MAPS) St Helens Permit Scheme - This scheme has now received SoS approval and is expected to "go-live" in April 2012.
Liverpool and Lancashire CC have now announced their intention to consider Permit Schemes.
Lane Rental will have both resourcing and financial implications for works promoters in the future as the processes will require payment for occupation of the highway for the full duration of the works.
The GMRAPS (Greater Manchester Road Activities Permit Scheme) has been fully consulted and is in the final preparation stages. The scheme covers all ten authorities within Greater Manchester and is the first "joint" scheme in the UK. Administration of permits will be dealt with at a central Manchester location common to all ten authorities.
The St Helens Permit Scheme (MAPS) consultation is now approved and will be the first to implement in Spring of 2012.
